About

BC Editorial – which is run by me, Bridget Coulter – offers high-quality editorial services to anyone who needs help with their writing. If your work needs an expert eye, I can help.

I am a trained and experienced editorial professional who understands that your words matter. Words are important. They allow us to communicate and express ourselves. As a professional, your reputation depends on your words, so it’s crucial that the text you produce is polished, persuasive and readable.

I work on a range of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, academic texts and written materials for organisations and businesses. Throughout my professional life, I’ve worked on novels, academic books, journal articles, postgraduate theses and dissertations, reports for a range of organisations (including charities, NGOs and universities), publicity and marketing materials, magazine articles, higher education teaching materials and online articles for blogs and websites.

As a keen writer and former academic researcher, I’ve had scholarly papers, journalistic articles, comment pieces and reviews published in a range of publications. Consequently, I have first-hand experience of having my own work edited, so I know what it’s like to be in your shoes. I use my own experiences as a writer to inform my editorial approach, providing a supportive and constructive service, so that you can be confident you’re producing your best work.

Before I started BC Editorial, I completed a PhD in Music. During my time in academia, I taught popular music studies and other subjects in the arts and humanities at university level. I also taught writing skills to university students, leading workshops, lectures and tutorials helping students to improve their academic and creative writing. After finishing my PhD, I worked as a market researcher for a charity. This involved designing and coordinating qualitative and quantitative research projects and writing reports about my research findings.

For me, words aren’t just my work. I’ve always enjoyed reading, writing and books, and I love relaxing at the end of the day with a cup of tea and a novel. Most of all, I’m a massive fan of crime, mystery and detective fiction, which I blog about here.

I am currently based in Sheffield in the North of England. In my spare time, I enjoy running and exploring the fabulous scenery of the nearby Peak District. I also enjoy singing (particularly jazz and swing music), and have been involved in a number of local bands, choirs and ensembles.
